A comprehensive introduction to garden planning and maintenance
This course, popular with both professional and keen amateur gardeners, will provide you with a really solid foundation in garden planning and maintenance, fruit and vegetable growing, and protected growing. You will explore topics including basic surveying and garden design; plant selection (including the world of Latin names); maintaining lawns and garden plants; the production of outdoor edibles; and working in greenhouses. It prepares you for the Level 2 RHS qualification which can provide a route into a horticultural career – on completion you could work as an assistant gardener, nursery worker or trainee garden designer. The RHS qualification is also an excellent base for further training.

You can start as soon as you want and progress through the course at your own pace (you have 2 years to complete it), studying when and where you choose. When you are ready to sit the examinations, you will need to register as a candidate with HCC or as an external candidate using another RHS Approved Centre. You do not need previous gardening knowledge or experience to enrol on this course.
If needed you have 2 years to complete the course. Many students are able to complete this course in approximately 9-12 months (approx 140 learning hours)*.
